Why keep it up if the world is on fire anyway? Why does giving up feel like it is the answer right now?
Everywhere you look someone is offended, angry, hungry, sick or…. dead. Lawsuits, cancelled, calling out, thrashing, destroying, wasting, black face, racism, stealing….. fear.
The overwhelming feeling evoked by what is happening in the world today makes it easier for you to give up on the small things. Laundry? It can wait. Those job applications? Why bother.
If you face even a little bit of resistance like a delay in delivery because of covid, seeing someone else disagree with your last instagram post, or better yet, no likes or sales in your online business …. it feels easier to just throw in the towel now and hide. When the thoughts hit your head ‘This is all for nothing’ – its so tempting to agree and just give up.
What do you need to do to keep the despair at bay?
- Limit the amount of time you spend on news channels?
- Unfollow social media accounts that make you feel bad?
- Remove yourself from certain group chats?
- Cancel certain subscriptions?
- Play some old playlists again?
- rediscover why you need to do certain things?
This is something you are going to have to figure out to make sure that prematurely giving up is not an option. Figuring out a few things using questions like the ones above will help you put things in perspective.
Another surprising thing that one can do is ‘mother ‘ themselves. Physically hugging yourself, stroking your head, saying out loud that it will all be okay.
How can you lighten your load at this moment?
Most importantly, do not give in to the despair. Do not agree with it. We do not despair , we take the time to recharge, reorganise, rethink, re do …. but give in to despair? No, not us.
